Vintage Barbie

Etchings

A combination of traditional dry point and etching techniques. Using embedded textures from feathers, fabric, net and furs. The images were inspired by a vintage doll catalogue sourced from a car boot sale. These 1950’s/60’s Barbies portray power and confidence reminiscent of the change in attitudes of womens rights at this time…a contrast to the airhead, buxom blonde that we all stereotypically associate with the Barbie brand.
